About LEU
|
Longmont Emergency Unit is an Emergency Rescue Group based in
Longmont, Colorado.
LEU is a completely volunteer, non-profit organization, comprised of men and
women who are on call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, trained to
respond to any type of emergency. Members are dedicated volunteers specializing
in many areas of rescue including first aid, extrication, dive rescue,
swift water rescue, and low and steep angle rope rescue. Unit members assist
with crime scenes, crowd control, scene lighting, traffic control and searches
of all types.
LEU
and the Community:
Our members
annually dedicate approximately 10,000 man hours in service to their community.
Whether it's a mass disaster drill, doing traffic at a parade, cutting
an accident victim from a wrecked car, giving a speech to another local
organization, or saving a victim from drowning, we pride ourselves on over
45 years of tradition and professionalism.
Our
Funding:
LEU is funded partially by Boulder County and partially by the City of Longmont.
LEU relies heavily on our own fund raising ventures and upon donations solicited
from businesses, corporations and private citizens. These funds are used to update
aging equipment, for training and to purchase new rescue apparatus ensuring the
utmost safety for both victim and rescuer.
Highlights:
1. In 1996, LEU was awarded
the Higgins-Langley Award for Achievement in Swift Water Rescue. This national
award was presented to LEU as the top swift water rescue team in the US.
We were the first all volunteer rescue team to ever receive this award.
Volunteer
Professionals:
We welcome applications for new members: They must be 18 years of age, have a valid Colorado drivers license and have not been convicted of any felonies. We routinely conduct a criminal history background check and a driver's license check. Applications are reviewed by the Commanders at their
regular meetings. The commander's recommendations
are then presented to the Board of Directors for their approval.
